Taking patient communication to the next level

CWZ is one of 27 top clinical teaching hospitals in the Netherlands. The hospital has almost all medical specialties in-house and its own emergency room and ICU. As a top clinical hospital, they provide valuable and sensible care for the Nijmegen region. For 170 years, people who need help and care have come first. What is best for them moves CWZ to this day.

The project
CWZ was looking for a way to take patient communication to the next level and wanted a simple, complete and, above all, user-friendly user interface. The hospital found this in Spark Narrowcasting and wanted to move to the new system in a short period of time. To make this happen, they opted for a transition in two phases.

In the first phase, the players behind the current screens were replaced and the application was set up according to the hospital's wishes and needs. There were two main wishes: to be able to display general or department-specific information and to display real-time waiting times and walk-out times. The latter was made possible with Spark Narrowcasting's walk-out time module. Patients and visitors thus always receive the most up-to-date information during their stay or visit. The second phase consists of replacing the current outdated screens. The information screens will be deployed organization-wide. The professional Digital Signage screens are of various sizes and can be hung in both portrait and landscape orientation. The position and size of the screens is strategically determined, taking into account light output and visibility.

Slide layouts
The slide layouts in the application are fully formatted in the CWZ corporate identity. In addition, all slides are constructed using animations. Showing animated images on the screens keeps the viewer's attention longer. Moving images make the message even stronger. To make content even more effective, the hospital uses themed slides with corresponding colors and/or loose elements. The loose elements make it possible to highlight quotes.

Exit time module
Spark's outpatient time module has been adapted to suit CWZ's needs. The hospital uses the module to give patients insight into any walkout time of an attending physician at the outpatient clinic. On the screens, a patient can see exactly how long the waiting time is. Patients thus know where they stand without having to ask at the front desk how long the wait is still. The module makes managing outpatient times much easier for an outpatient desk clerk.
