MCL. Seen, heard, helped.
Medisch Centrum Leeuwarden (MCL) is a top clinical hospital in Leeuwarden and Harlingen, for acute, high-complex and basic care in Friesland. The hospital focuses on research, education, innovation and provides exceptional care for each individual patient.
A good provision of information
With narrowcasting, the hospital focuses entirely on effective and efficient information provision for patients and visitors. Strategically placed narrowcasting screens at central locations and outpatient clinics provide the right message at the right time. To replace all the old screens, LG screens with integrated webOS player have been installed. To ensure an optimal experience, the right format, mounting position, light output and viewing distance of screens were carefully considered.
MCL's communications department provides the information on the screens. The content may differ per screen and location. You can imagine that different information will be displayed at the emergency room than at the neurology outpatient clinic, for example. At the same time, there is also general information that is relevant to everyone. Therefore, the communications department uses basic content to display throughout the hospital and decentralized information that varies depending on the department. Prior to going live, training was conducted to allow sufficient time to set up all content for all departments in the user interface. After the installation was completed, the MCL was able to go live with Spark Narrowcasting immediately.
Recognizable slide layouts in house style
The slide layouts in the application are formatted in MCL's house style. The screens display a wide selection of content, including instructional videos, information on health topics, wait times, news and general announcements to inform and engage patients, visitors and staff. To keep patients informed of wait times, MCL uses our walk-out time module. When there is a delay in a consultation hour, this is displayed on narrowcasting and the patient is informed immediately. This eliminates the need to inquire with the front desk staff, saving more time for care. The design of the slide layout is such that the area where walk-out times are displayed is scalable, so there is enough space and other content remains clearly legible on the screen. The next step is to interface with the electronic health record (EHR) to make management even more efficient.

"We are very happy with Spark's new system. We experienced the road to going live as very pleasant. Regular meetings to jointly monitor the progress of the project resulted in a flawless installation in our hospital. MCL now has a beautiful solution with new content, with which we can properly inform and involve our patients and visitors. Spark's system works very pleasantly and offers many possibilities. For example, outpatient staff can also easily add waiting times in the outpatient module. Now that the implementation has taken place, MCL can focus on the further development of the system."
