About NEMO Science Museum
NEMO Science Museum challenges everyone, young and old, to discover just how fascinating and relevant science and technology are. In a museum full of experiments, demonstrations, and workshops, you’ll get hands-on and experience just how extraordinary everyday things really are. For example, discover where the water from the tap comes from, how lightning is formed, and why you sometimes see things that aren’t there. Whether it’s a crackling sweater or a rainbow, after a visit to NEMO, you’ll see the world through new eyes.
The Project
Daily schedule, activities, and food and beverage options displayed in real time
Screens displaying visitor information are located throughout the museum. This allows visitors to see what activities are available each day and where to find them. Each food and beverage outlet has its own screen displaying the current menu and prices. The screens also show videos of experiments, floor plans, and event announcements, among other things.
The daily schedule and pricing lists for the food and beverage outlets are populated using the data sets in Spark Narrowcasting. NEMO selects which activities and food and beverage outlets are available on a given day, and the screens update accordingly. If there are fewer activities or food and beverage outlets, the layout adjusts accordingly.
Layouts in two languages and in NEMO’s corporate style
All layouts are designed in NEMO’scorporate style and are available in both Dutch and English versions, so that both Dutch and international visitors can find their way around. The layouts are flexible, and the elements scale accordingly. If a content box isn’t filled, the screen still looks neat. This allows NEMO to choose, for each screen, what best fits the message of the moment.
Migrated in a single day
The transition from the existing environment to Spark took just one day. All content was ready, making it possible to test the screens and go live immediately on the day of installation. Several training sessions were held prior to installation, enabling NEMO staff to work with the system right from the start.
Modern visitor communication with Spark Narrowcasting
With SparkNarrowcasting, NEMO keeps visitors and staff informed in a way that aligns with the museum’s brand identity, adapts to the museum’s growth and needs, and is always up to date. Information is displayed on screen exactly where visitors need it.
NEMO Findings
Eva Hekman (Marketing & Communications)
“Working with Spark has been a pleasure from the very beginning. In addition to responding quickly, they’re always ready to help brainstorm solutions to questions about features and screen usage. The screens look attractive and dynamic, and the system is easy to use. Because you can flexibly arrange the elements within a layout, a single layout offers many possibilities without requiring dozens of templates.”
