Communication to the next level with narrowcasting

About RDW
The RDW stands for safety, sustainability and legal certainty for road users and society.

Core tasks
The RDW is committed to safe and clean vehicles and excellent service for society. In doing so, they are active throughout the vehicle chain: from design to dismantling or export. In this way, they ensure safe and sustainable vehicles on the road, guarantee legal certainty in registration and information provision, and offer reliable, independent toll and truck charging.

They fulfill 4 roles, each with associated core tasks to meet societal needs.

  • Approval authority: granting type approvals and exemptions;
  • Supervisory authority: supervising manufacturers, approvals and license plate holders, and monitoring the technical condition and emissions of vehicles;
  • Registration authority: providing vehicle information to stakeholders and registering vehicle data and driving licenses; and
  • Toll collector: collecting tolls and truck levies.

Information screens at RDW
At various RDW locations, screens have been placed in landscape mode. Via the Spark Narrowcasting application, different departments can easily manage and publish their own content. A central broadcast has been set up by the Communications Department so that national information is immediately visible on all screens. In addition, location managers can add local content to the screens within their own locations.

Smart deployment in testing stations
In the inspection locations, the screens are not only used for practical information for visitors, but are also cleverly deployed to show, for example, current vacancies, provided with QR codes. Visitors can thus easily consult additional information via the website.

House style as basis for recognition
A series of slide layouts was developed for the screens in which the RDW's house style colors and typography are fully implemented. This ensures a uniform and recognizable appearance on all screens. Location-specific RSS feeds are also displayed. In the Randstad area, for example, traffic jam information is displayed and the local weather forecast is added to the playlist.

The well-known licence plate display
The familiar display at the RDW building in Groningen that shows the most recently issued license plate is now also included in Spark's narrowcasting solution. Thanks to a direct link, the latest license plate appears automatically on the screen.

Easy login via SSO
RDW employees who have access to the Spark Narrowcasting environment use Single Sign-On (SSO). This allows them to log in safely and quickly with their familiar RDW account.
